Pour baking soda inside moccasins to absorb odor.
Those smells emanating from your moccasins normally come from sweaty feet as the moisture soaks into the soles. Once the odor becomes trapped inside the moccasin material, it may make your feet smell after removing the shoes. Removing pungent smells from moccasins require the use of absorbents that mask or kill the odor. Use the proper techniques and products that remove smells but keep the moccasin material intact.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • Odor absorbing shoe pads
  • White vinegar
  • Paper towels
    • 1
Sprinkle 1/8 cup of baking soda into each moccasin. Stick your hand inside the shoe and rub the baking soda into the material. Avoid wearing the moccasins for 24 hours to allow the baking soda time to absorb the odor.
    • 2
Place odor eaters inside the moccasins. Trim the odor eaters with scissors so they fit snug inside your shoes without disrupting the fit.
    • 3
Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup water in a bowl. Moisten a paper towel with the mixture and squeeze out the excess liquid. Gently pat the shoe interior with the paper towel. Dry the shoe with a clean paper towel to remove any dampness.
    • 4
Set moccasins in the sun. Open the shoes as much as possible and set them on a table in direct sunlight. The sun's rays destroy any mildew inside the moccasin and remove the odor from the shoes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rub your feet with talcum powder before putting on moccasins to reduce the chance of sweaty feet contributing to smells inside the shoes.
  • Examine your feet for athlete's foot. Such symptoms as redness and peeling of skin may signal a foot fungus and result in foot odor inside your shoes. Seek treatment with over-the-counter medications or see your doctor.
