how to make a memorial for your pet

Here's how to make a memorial for your pet that will keep him memorialized for years to come.

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Picture of your pet
  • Computer
  • Editing program you can copy and paste photos
  • Printing program that aides you in making differerent projects
  • Printer
  • Printer paper
  • 8x10 Picture frame
  • Scanner or a way of getting your pet's photo onto your computer
    • 1
Begin by gathering the above supplies. Scan your photo, or if the photo is on a memory disk, simply connect the disk in your usual way to your computer and save your photo in your documents.

Super-imposed image of pet over clouds and rainbow
Open your editing program and select “new project.” Begin your memorial by selecting a background for your pet’s picture. As you can see in the photo provided, I super-imposed my pet's picture over a background of clouds and a rainbow so he looks like he is in heaven lying on the rainbow. Place your selected background on the new project page and size it to the size you want it to be.

Next, retrieve your pet's photo and use your editing program to chip away everything in the background except your pet. Selecting the freehand line option can do this. Start at any point and slowly go around your pet's image so that when you click “cut,” everything except your pet is gone. Now copy and paste that image over top of your background. Place it on the background in the position you want it.

Memorial poem written by family member
Now, write a memorial for your pet. As you can see in the photo provided here, my daughter wrote a poem to memorialize our pet and told of all the little things he did that we loved so much about him.

      Story of Rainbow Bridge
Next, our vet sent us a sympathy card and it had a story about the “Rainbow Bridge” on the inside of it. (see photo provided). I simply typed that into paragraph form and placed it next to his memorial poem.

Now, if the page is set up the way you want it, you can print it out onto a plain sheet of printer paper or on a 8x10 sheet of photo paper. If you want to do changes to your memorial, do so before printing. You may even want to print a sample sheet to see if you like it before printing it on photo paper. You can make changes to it in any way you choose. Finally, place the photo in an 8x10 picture frame.
