     The first step is choosing a pet that you can provide the proper care and time to. You do not want to choose a pet that you won't have the time to provide it with the care it needs.

     Once you have decided on the right pet, you should make sure that you have everything your new 'family member' is going to need in the home 'before' he or she arrives. This includes: food and water bowls, food, toys, litter box (if needed),bedding, and grooming supplies

     Although there are other important things that you need to do when bringing in a new pet, such as having to introduce him to another pet, I have found that getting your pet a Veterinarian as soon as possible is the most important. The sooner you can get your pet to the Veterinarian, the sooner they can get their tests and vaccinations.
