Top celebrity fitness regimes

PA - Cheryl Cole says she keeps fit in the gym by hitting the treadmill for 30 minutes and then doing an hour of resistance work. She's onto something here - combining short bursts of cardio with weights is a great way to burn fat and improve muscle tone at the same time. She was also rumoured to have used a Hypoxi therapy bike (which will set you back a cool £36,000!) earlier in her career. Relax, a simple spin class (still this writer's favourite way to burn away jelly belly) is just as good. Training for performances doesn't hurt her figure either, but Cole has said she likes to set aside one day a week for pigging out. Good lass!

PA - Slinky movie star Cameron Diaz, who lives in sunny California, is able to combine one of her passions with keeping fit. Surfing is a religion to Diaz, but it is also partly responsible for her fantastic figure. Riding waves works your core muscles and strengthens your legs as you attempt to stay upright and is about as much fun as you can have while giving yourself a full body workout. You should probably wait until the temperature goes up a bit before heading to the beach, however.

PA - A-list actress Reese Witherspoon combines a straightforward (but clearly effective) exercise regime with some rather unorthodox fitness habits. The Oscar winner says she keeps trim by exercising every day, usually running for an hour - and she spends separate sessions walking backwards to tone her calf muscles. Try it at home if you want, but watch where you are going!

PA - Pop star Katy Perry does not follow much of an exercise regime, with one exception - she loves to skip. Mrs Russell Brand has said that she finds the gym boring, but just loves to 'jump rope'. She has chosen well; skipping works the muscles in the upper and lower parts of the body and burns through 250 calories in 20 minutes.

PA - With her perfectly toned physique, Jennifer Aniston has a body to die for. As well as running regularly to work up a sweat, Aniston also swears by hatha yoga to strengthen, tone and correct posture. Any type of yoga is also great for your mental health and helps to reduce stress levels - handy if your personal life is as turbulent as Ms Aniston's.

PA - Katie Holmes managed to snap back in shape just months after giving birth to daughter Suri, suggesting this lady knows her way around the gym. Holmes is lucky enough to have a state-of-the-art gym at the home she shares with husband Tom Cruise, but it is her love of running (she finished the New York Marathon in 2007) that helps her to stay in shape. Holmes combines these cardio workouts with regular weight training sessions - a great way to burn fat and add greater definition to muscles.
