How to Use a Diffuser for Curls

Curls and waves can be enhanced with a diffuser
A diffuser is a type of attachment that fits on hair dryers. Its spreads the flow of air evenly and prevents strong blowing onto the hair. Using a diffuser to dry hair can take time as it relies on heat to dry the hair more than the blowing of the air itself. According to Styles 101, curly hair looks best when dried with a diffuser because regular blow-drying with high air-blowing settings can cause frizz and excessive heat damage from the heat not being distributed evenly.

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Wide-tooth comb
  • Curl-enhancing product
  • Anti-frizz Cream
  • Hair dryer with diffuser attachment
    • 1
Shampoo, condition and towel-dry your hair as normal. Comb it with a wide-tooth comb to detangle it and avoid any frizz.
    • 2
Squirt a quarter-sized dollop of a curl-enhancing product into your palm. Rub your palms together to warm and soften the product. Rub the product through your hair. Concentrate on rubbing it through the middle of the hair shaft down to the ends. Rub what's left on your hands onto the top of your hair around the roots. Use a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute the product.
    • 3
Set the hair-dryer on high heat with a low speed.
    • 4
Dry your hair by directing air flow to the underneath layers of the hair, such as the ones that grow above the base of your neck. Continue drying and moving your way to the top layers of the hair. The top layers frizz if over-dried with a dryer, so saving these layers for last can minimize damage.
    • 5
Flip your head upside down for the last few minutes of your drying time to add lift and volume to your hair.
    • 6
Rub a dime-sized dollop of anti-frizz cream through the bottom-half of your hair, concentrating on the ends.
    • 7
      Style hair as usual.
