How to Make Chunky Jewelry

How to Make Chunky Jewelrythumbnail
Turn PVC piping into jewelry.
Chunky jewelry has always been popular from the time of Cleopatra's headdress to the runways of today. Big is better as far as jewelry is concerned. Necklaces almost look like breastplates and earrings hang nearly to the neckline. Bangle bracelets can be expensive and heavy. A lightweight alternative, that won't break the bank, is to make a chunky bangle bracelet out of PVC piping.

Difficulty:

Moderately Easy

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • PVC (polymerized vinyl chloride) piping you can fit your hand through.
  • Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Acetone nail polish remover
  • Scrapbooking papers
  • Decoupage paste
  • Leather cording
  • Super Glue
  • Spray adhesive
  1. Decoupage Bangle Bracelet

    • 1
Cut the piping into sections that are 1 inch wide. If you buy the piping at a home improvement store, they will probably do the cutting for you at little to no cost.
    • 2
Sand the rough edges of the piping. Remove any markings on the pipe with acetone nail polish remover.
    • 3
Cut the scrapbooking paper into strips that are 1 inch wide. Paint the pipe slice with decoupage liquid. Wrap the paper strips around the bracelet starting at one end and overlap them slightly. Apply decoupage paste over the paper. Let dry. Apply another layer of strips until the bracelet is entirely covered inside and out with the paper.

    Leather Cord Bangle Bracelet

    • 1
      Cut and sand the pipe.
    • 2
Apply a dab of Super Glue to one end of the cording and attach it to the inside of the sanded piping slice
    • 3
Apply spray adhesive to the slice an inch at a time. Wrap the bracelet in leather cording over where you've sprayed. Spray the next inch and wrap. Continue until the slice is covered.
    • 4
Secure the end of the cording with a dab of Super Glue.
